Of all the beautiful characters that NCIS has to offer, Ducky truly stands out. Full of dry humor, playful banter and quick wit, the medical examiner always manages to make you laugh and then take a hard look at your life. Take a look at some of the best pieces of life advice that Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard has had to offer.

6 of Tony and Jeanne's Best Moments on NCIS>>>

1. "Live for today, because yesterday is gone and tomorrow may never come."

In the season 3 episode "Jeopardy," Ducky offers this advice (originally given to him by his father) to James Palmer, essentially telling him to be fully present in the moment and not worry so much about what has happened or what may happen.

2. "Pity does not validate cowardice."

Ducky says this to Gibbs in the season 10 episode, "Shiva," when the body of a suicide victim showed signs of inoperable tumors. While Gibbs looks at this as a reason for the victim to end his own life, Ducky looks at it as a cheap way out. He doesn't think any excuses should be made for someone taking the easy way out.

3. "If you're going through hell, keep going."

This is good advice for anyone who feels at their lowest point. When things are tough, you have to push through, because standing still will only leave you to wallow. Ducky explains this to Palmer in the season 14 episode, "Keep Going."

4. "The lower your score, the more potential Gibbs thinks you have."

In his full explanation of this quote during this season 12 episode, "The Searchers," Ducky offers Bishop this piece of advice to get noticed by Gibbs: "Allow me to impart a little bit of wisdom that I have given to each and every aspiring agent before you, on this your proverbial day. Don't fret your number. Jethro gives low scores to push you." In other words, don't fret over someone's initial thoughts of you. Use it to push yourself further.

5. "I've always believed that jogging does more harm than good."

In this season 14 episode, "Keep Going," Ducky had the scientific data to back up his theory that we should really never waste time jogging, and anyone who tells you it's healthy is lying to you. Thank you, Ducky, for giving us an excuse to stay inside and binge-watch more NCIS.
